How to Pack Neatly

When traveling on long or short trips you still want to look presentable instead of wearing clothes that look like a raison or smell so strong because your perfume spilled over everything. Here are some tips that can help avoid some of those problems.

  • Pack carefully to avoid wrinkles.
  • Pack each item one at a time in a clockwise direction.
  • Pack heavy items on the bottom of the suitcase to avoid wrinkles.
  • Place the bottles in freezer bags with a seal to further protect your items.
  • Pack tightly. Packing loosely wastes precious space and causes clothes to wrinkle.
  • Bring along a plastic trash bag to keep your dirty items separate from your other clothes.
  • Pack your shoes in shoe bags or old socks to keep their dirty soles from touching your clean clothes.
  • Always include a collapsible tote bag for purchases made during your trip or to hold laundry, wet swimsuits and towels.
  • Use a mesh bag like an old stocking bag to put clean undergarments in – it will be much easier to find than rummaging through my bag looking for clean undergarments.
  • Pack your liquid items in less than full plastic bottles, they might freeze and expand if you’re traveling by plane or putting them in a trunk and traveling through cold weather.
  • Men: Roll your ties backwards and very tightly round two of your fingers, Starting from the narrow end and finishing with the wide. Then secure by rolling a sock over each one separately.
  • Roll pajamas, nightgowns, sweaters, and other casual wear to fill small spaces, when possible, BUT don’t cram your suitcase full. If you have to force your luggage to close, remove a few items to prevent broken hinges or zippers along the way.
  • Take along some large zip-lock plastic bags. These can be used to store wet clothes, dirty sandals or anything that needs to be separated from everything else in your pack. They are very cheap, take up no room and become invaluable on any trip
  • After settling on a vacation destination, the first thing travelers should do is make up a list of what they will need. This accomplishes two things: it speeds up packing and lets the traveler know what might be missing in the event of lost luggage.
  • After opening the bag on a smooth surface, the traveler should place shoes, hairdryers, toiletries and other heavy objects in the bottom of the case opposite the handle. Wrinkle-free items such as jeans, T-shirts, lingerie and sweaters can be rolled to cushion heavier items.
